Visit Chicago’s Lakefront Park District ~ Full of Variety and Fun!

Head to the Lakefront Park District in Chicago, THE place for all your adventures! This area of land on the east side of Chicago up against Lake Michigan offers many choices from sporting, to music and entertainment, to arts, to a stroll in a museum, to stare at the stars, or just a leisurely stroll.  This is a happening place for arts and entertainment.

At the north end of the district is the Daley Bicentennial Park and Activities Center. Named after Chicago’s famous mayor, Richard Joseph Daley, born back in 1902. He was Chicago’s Mayor for 21 years. He was also chairman of the Cook County Democratic Central Committee for 23 years.  A famous quote from him: “Power is dangerous unless you have humility.”

CIMG1018.JPGMillennium Park is an interesting read. Originally meant to celebrate the second millennium, previously occupied by Illinois Central Rails. It is bounded by well known Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, and Columbus Drive, with East Monroe Drive. In 2015 it became the center for the city’s annual Christmas Tree lighting. It hosts a variety of public art. Receiving awards for its green design and accessibility, it holds the Jay Pritzker Pavillion, Cloud Gate, Crown Fountain, Lurie Fountain…..

CIMG1047.JPGThe Buckingham Fountain is a Chicago landmark. Chicago’s front door! The fountain represents Lake Michigan with four sets of seahorses, two per set. These seahorses represent Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana that border the lake. The fountain is an amazing display with 14,000 gallons of water being forced through its 193 jets. Shows lasting for 20 minutes. It features daily water shows and evening color light shows that have choreographed music.  It operates from April to October. In the winter it is closed and displayed in an array of beautiful lights.

Segway tours are available, and offer the chance to see all that the Park District offers in a short amount of time.

The list of attractions provides a full array of entertainment: Navy Pier, Soldier Field, Museum Campus, The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, FirstMerit Bank Pavillion, Hutchison Fields, Buckingham Fountain, Butler Field, Grant Park, Jay Pritzker Pavillion, Harris Theater, Art Institute of Chicago and Peanut Park.
